DescriptionWell, here I am, 24 years into this hobby having gone through many highs and lows with my collecting, having owned art from pretty much every artist imaginable, featuring almost every known character, and as I flip through my portfolios I still keep coming back to these types of pages which most people will never care anything about and continue to reaffirm that I'm on the right path with my collecting. I collect for nobody but myself and I can say with 100% honesty and sincerity that a page like this gives me as much, if not more joy than any other piece I own by any artist, whether it be a cover, DPS or interior. For me, the primary goal in continuing to collect comic art is to have FUN and buying pages from comics that were and still are fun to read plays a big role in achieving that goal.Although Superboy himself is out of costume and barely even on this page, the great supporting character Knockout is not only prominently featured, but also in a way that shows the humorous fun that Karl Kesel and Tom Grummett imbued into this title. Knockout gives a kid every schoolboy's dream in this scene, and Grummett's realistic yet simultaneously cartoony style fits it perfectly! I have to give credit where it is due, to Steve Erwin, who was a very solid penciller in his own right, but who kept to Grummett's style in this issue in spite of providing finished pencils over Tom's layouts. Kudos also goes to either to Doug Selogy (who?) or Ken Branch, which ever one of them inked this page because they too inked Erwin's finished pencils in such a way as to keep the finished look of the art looking very much as if Grummett had provided full pencils. A great "smooch" page with a memorable character (from a great & fun run). Remove the red (head?) lines indeed ;)

So sorry but, I just can't resist--Now THIS page is a Knockout! Great page in every respect! And, oh man, does Tom Grummett know how to draw sexy women. Congrats, Ruben!

See, it pays to be the class clown and make snide remarks. I thought Superboy was going to be taken out of class to knock boots with fly honey Knockout to her objection... As if. So chill out teach! Talk to the hand.

Not fair! A snide comment gets you a smooch from the voluptuous Knockout?? Sigh -- there's no justice in the world. Though I think that kid might just have permanent dain bramage. Great page, and yeah, it's the definition of FUN!!

Great page, Ruben, and you are not at all wrong about the FUN factor seeping off of this one. Great storytelling, and I absolutely love the red hearts and lipstick in that last panel; they really pop off the black and white page. The team did a great job with this one, for sure. This is absolutely delightful! Congrats!

Such an awesome example of a self contained story page that can sit on its own. Love pages like this and think word balloons need to be brought back. The red line hearts add to its uniqueness too. Congrats!

Has anyone said not to remove the red lines yet? Because, don't remove the red lines. :) I remember this issue well, and loved the humor of the character. I dig your art postings, because I read this stuff when I was a kid, too, and it brings back such great memories. Superboy, Cadmus, and great humorous characters like Knockout. And Erwin did a great job aping Grummett's style. I like it, Rubén, and I also like that it does not matter to you whether I do or not. That's how to collect. Congrats!
