DescriptionJust got home from San Jose Comic Con. Tiny local show, small venue, and only about 30-40 vendors. But for me, it may as well have been SDCC. Had more fun in just a few hours than I’ve had in the past 16 months. Might have to do with the fact that I haven’t been to an actual comic convention in over 3 years, but this was SOOOOOO nice. Yes, we all had to wear a mask. But such a small price to pay for getting back some sense of normalcy. Actually ran into some old friends I had not seen in a long while. Had some great chats with plenty of like minded folks. All there to have a good time. And yes, I even picked up a nice piece of artwork. Unfortunately, no photos to share (I don’t have that kind of phone). But take my word for it, a great time was had by all. Man, I can’t wait for all our major Cons to come back full scale. At least this delicious appetizer will keep me satisfied for the time being.
By the way, unless I pick up something else in the next couple of days, this piece should end up being my annual birthday piece. Since I stopped working, I haven't really indulged in my annual birthday piece for the past couple of years. Feels good being able to start the tradition again with this fun piece. Also, I did pay for something I haven't received yet, which I THOUGHT would be my annual birthday piece, but obviously buying this one nullifies that. Thanks to Steve Wyatt and Steve Morger for filling a huge void and for putting on such a wonderful show. I think you helped our local community more than you could possibly know. Thanks also to my comic dealer and fledgling art collector buddy Mike for my dealer bracelet. Hope to see some of you at the next show. Stay safe everyone! Social/Sharing |

You are just saying it was fun because you got to wear a mask at a convention. Its the closest to a superhero that most people ever get...and just as bad as the superheroes disguises. Lol.

I'm looking forward to my first con again, too. It's been waaaay too long. Congrats on getting back into the scene, and with a really fun piece, to boot. A perfect rendering of the Pooh crew. Congrats!

Thanks JH (and Dave, James, Yo, Paul, & Rick). I can't stress enough how important this was to both my emotional and mental state. Of course when I woke up today, we were still in the middle of this pandemic. But when I stepped into that convetion hall yestefday, it was like stepping back into my life before COVID. So my wish for all of you is that you can find something to make you feel that way too. Doesn't have to be a comic con necessarily, but anything to make you forget just how much this crazy virus has affected all our lives.

Congrats on getting away from COVID, if only a little while! Beautiful Winnie the Pooh drawing as a reward!

Thanks buddy! I think the real reward for me was just the escape. Funny thing is that everyone I ran into, I felt like I hadn't seem them in 20 years. Plus all the funny double takes I did when I walked by someone I knew because they were wearing a mask. Anyway, wish you could've been there.

That's a super charming group shot of the Pooh characters! Royer draws the Disney characters so well. Always has a nice feel for them. Huge congrats!

Thanks buddy! Yeah, he really does. And he's been doing it for decades. I remember the very first SDCC I took my sister to. She picked up a great Eeyore piece. And there's no discernable loss of skill or quality between this piece and that one. Even 20 years apart. Appreciate the comment, hope to see you soon.
