DescriptionIn this final issue of the Grand Guignol, the original Mist reveals that he was behind everything all along and holds Opal to ransom: in five minutes he will die, triggering a massive explosion that will kill everyone in Opal, including his daughter and the son she conceived with Jack Knight. I love all of James Robinson's dialogue in this book, but the dialogue on this page, it left its mark on me through the years. The Mist eventually kills his daughter, leaving Jack with their child, and Ted Knight arrives on the scene with a greatly improved, massively powerful version of the gravity rod which he has been working on. He uses this to take the Mist and the building he has packed with explosives far out of harm's reach, so that when the Mist dies and the bombs explode, Opal is saved, but Ted Knight is killed in his final act as a hero. James Robinson has a way with words that will always stick with me. He can turn up the darkness in an instant or turn the heavy wheel of fate over to provide a tale that will become legend.

A gut-wrenching sequence, as can only be conceived by a man whose foot was crushed by an errant electric wheelchair. From great pain comes great art.

I very nearly pulled the trigger on this one myself. I'm glad to see it go to someone with such an appreciation of this moment. The one I did get should be arriving any moment now. Congrats!

Peter Snejbjerg had big shoes to fill given the work Tony Harris did in the early years of the series, but he pulled it off. His artwork combined with James Robinson's words created some of the most emotional scenes I've ever read in a comic book. Congrats on getting such a fantastic page from such an important issue.
