DescriptionIt's cover month here at Shemp's gallery. For the month of September I will post 4 new covers, one each sunday. The Young All-Stars #16. Now it can be told, the secret origin of Neptune Perkins, the human dolphin. The Young All-Stars was born out of Crisis on Infinite Earths. After the Crisis on Infinite Earths event wiped Earth 2 from existence, Thomas penned the Young All-Stars, which consisted of Iron Munro, Dyna-Mite, Flying Fox, Fury, Neptune Perkins, Tigress and Tsunami. Great cover with Neptune Perkins front and center with rest of the Young All-Stars along the edge. Rich beautiful dark inks and well balanced. Roy Thomas did his best with this series, he tried to keep the legacy of the All Star Squadron going and I liked the characters he introduced but it wasn't the same. Still, I enjoyed the title and you never see the covers from the series pop up. Luckily I now have two. From 1988 The Young All-Stars #16 "The Dzyan Inheritance, Book One: Leviathan!" by artist Michael Bair. PS. Busy day today, almost didn't post today. Holiday weekend, Fantasy Draft day and Mom's 74th Birthday! Have a great Labor day everyone! Social/Sharing |

Well designed layout and nice detail on this cover. The horizontal lines make a nice solid base for the floating heads to rise above.
Happy Birthday to your Mom!

Stunning use of the computer age aesthetics along with a cosmic backdrop. The graphic design elements pieces together a strong and coherent narrative to give hints to the viewer what to expect.

I don't remember anything about it, but I remember enjoying this series. The covers were really attractive for the most part and this is a really strong example. As you say, pretty rare too!

Man, absolutely love the layout/composition choices, and the illustration execution is just as good. So much ink on the board that really makes everything else pop. Really a killer example. Congrats!
