DescriptionAlessandro Barbucci is now widely famous for his work on comic books for the French market, such as Skydoll, Ekhö, and Le Soeurs Gremillet, but also series he co-created like W.I.T.C.H. and Monster Allergy.Maybe not all of you will know that he started by drawing ducks and mice at 18 years old in Disney, and his first published work for them is a Donald Duck story published on Paperino Mese 159, September 1993, when Alessandro was not yet 20. His influence within the Italian Disney environment grew very quickly, he became a teacher at the Accademia Disney, many young artists saw him as a reference, he was part of the incredibly successful PK project, he co-created Donald Duckling and W.I.T.C.H., and he won two Topolino d’Oro awards for his work on these last two projects. I believe that we would have a significantly different “Topolino” magazine today if the collaboration between him and Disney hadn’t stopped… his creative energy, dynamism, and modern style would have continued affecting everything and everybody. Now, this last summer, Alessandro opened a slot for commissions, and I really couldn’t miss the chance to finally ask him for a return to the Disney characters… I was overjoyed when he said he was happy to do it!!! I would have been more than delighted with an Uncle Scrooge full-figure piece, but I asked him if he would also consider additional characters and/or background, and (lucky me) he did!!! Here’s the final watercolor piece, a classic theme, Scrooge diving into his money, with Donald on a boat (this is somewhat reminiscent of Barks’, isn’t it?), but with Alessandro’s personal touch and magic. It’s so dynamic that Scrooge seems to pop out of the page, and you almost hear the coins tinkling. Also, Scrooge's expression is sheer joyfulness. I’m in awe every time I look at it. Both the characters’ rendition and overall composition look gorgeous to me. Could you be so happy only by looking at a drawing? I definitely can. P.S. Scrooge was also somewhat present in this Ekhö commission by Barbucci Huge thanks to Alessandro!!! Paper size: 21 x 29.7 cm Social/Sharing |

The slight angle of the eyes and the bill with the cracked smile are an extension of the enthusiastic way he dives like a swimmer!

O, nella memorabile traduzione italiana: "Mi ci tuffo dentro come un pesce baleno!" :) Fantastic drawing by Barbucci, one of the very best Scrooges in your Gallery!

I admit the italian translation, while not exactly faithful, is definitely powerful and imaginative!
I also have to agree that this rendition of Scrooge is one of my favorite EVER ^_^

Wonderful commission by the great Alessandro Barbucci! What a delightful painting of Uncle Scrooge diving into a sea of coins! I love the excited smile on Scrooge's face as he braces himself to dive into his money pit! Love the added figure of Donald attempting to row his boat through the waves of coins! The composition of this piece is fantastic! It's a lovely tribute to the work of Carl Barks! Congratulations on a stunningly beautiful commission!
