Description14" x 22.5" - the actual art is on one board with a second board taped to the to top with the stats, the title/stats overlap the art board on the front.I love this piece as it captures a sense of joy in the Hawks as they over a cityscape (presumably Midway City despite the Chrysler-looking building behind them). The Isabella/Howell run of Hawkman in the 80's was peak Silver Age Hawkman storytelling, just before the grim & gritty era set in and Hawkman continuity was forever FUBARed by Hawkworld (as much as I loved the story & art Hawkworld, it ultimately should have been set in the past or treated as an Elseworlds). Awesome awesome awesome. I vividly remember this cover. While a Marvel guy, Hawkman has always been one of my favorite DC characters. Bravo!

I remember seeing it a year or two after it came out - I was in high school when it was published, but we had no comic book stores in the area. Was shocked to see it at a comic book store while in college and splurged to buy it. The cover really sold it for me.

Great ICG index book! They brought the best of the DC indexes and had idealized covers that even attracted those who never read the title and wanted a quick way to get caught up. This is an elegant cover celebrating the strength and gracefulness of flight that Hawkman was a hallmark of the character during the early Joe Kubert and Murphy Anderson years.

I missed out on them in high school - no comic book stores in the area, so the switch to direct marketing for so much meant missing a lot. I was thrilled to grab them in college when I had them - it's getting hard to remember the days of not hearing about things anywhere if you didnt' see them yourself.

A beautiful cover that takes me back to the mid 80's, when I bought my first Hawkman comic, the 1st issue of the maxi series which also had lovely pencils by Howell and gorgeous inks by Alfredo Alcala. Great piece, congrats!

I absolutely love the Alcala inks over Howell - the texturing of the wings that Alcala did made it seem like you could almost feel them by looking at them.

Fabulous cover! Howell was the perfect artist for these characters.
I also agree with your sentiments on the Hawkworld prestige format miniseries. Fantastic story, but it mucked up the characters for years to follow.
