Description

Disney WWII Insignia Drawing for Gray Field Air Base Detachment by Hank Porter (Walt Disney, c. 1941). "It's a job that requires lots of hands to keep planes in readiness. This insignia tells the story for Gray Field," explains the description of this insignia in the 1942 26th issue of Walt Disney's Comics and Stories. This little bee is quite widely known, as it was published in this comic and several other publications during and after World War II. This insignia was designed by Hank Porter for the Air Base Detachment of Gray Field. This unit was located in Fort Lewis, Washington. This charming insignia, which shows a multitasking bee with a variety of tools its hands, was published as part of the nine-card Card-O trading card set. This drawing is rendered with graphite and blue pencil on 8.25" x 10.25" paper. The lovely drawing is in Good to Very Good condition, with some handling and edge wear, as well as some graphite smudging and minor staining.
