Description

This is the May. Day 02. Thirty-One days of Star Wars continues...

So yesterday I added to the gallery a Brian Thies page from Legacy (Volume 2) that my wife Stacey had purchased for me for Valentine's Day (thanks Peanut!). Today is another page by Brian. A page that showed up in the exact same Masonite packaging, from the exact same Mark Hay at Splash Page Comic Art, the exact next day after the other page delivered for Stacey. From the outside they were identical, and Stacey was PISSED that someone else was stealing her thunder!

Meanwhile, Kavi had sent me what the kids today call an AOK/early birthday present. Little did he know it would set off the alarm bells in my typically docile abode. Once opened though, I was able to demonstrate to Stacey that each page of OA is like a snowflake, beautiful and unique, and there was room in my heart and portfolio for both. Whew.

On this page, Darth Wredd is near the end of recounting his life story. Growing up on Mala, Wredd had discovered that he was Force-sensitive in his youth. Unable to join the Jedi Order due to the Massacre at Ossus, Wredd instead became a skilled swordsman and the champion of his village. Towards the end of the Second Imperial Civil War, Wredd's world was destroyed by the One Sith who tested a bioweapon there, which destroyed all life and knocked the planet off its orbit, causing it to float free through space (a detail revisited in the final two issues of the series). While Wredd was allowed to live, he was forcibly apprenticed to a Sith master. Here we see Wredd’s defeat and submission to the One Sith.

Again, Brian Thies’ ink work shines in the raw page, unencumbered by word balloons, coloring, and otherwise muddying print demands.

May the Force be with You!

Another great one. I know I'm in the minority, but this Thies brush inking for Star Wars is my favourite stuff, simply because I'm old school and love brush work more than any other inking tool. Happy May 2nd!

Well Ruben, make sure to tune in to Nick's show Friday on the EXP. He'll be giving away a page from Brian's run on this series.

Well, I like a lot of stuff I don't feel the need to own. On Nick's show I'm always hoping to win the giveaways but only so I can gift it to a new-ish collector in th audience. So is he giving one away because you gifted him one of yours?

These would make swell re-gifts. And yep, I am donating pages to Bill and Nick for their shows this week for the Star Wars holiday season, and the 45th anniversary of the first movie later this month. The entertainment on both channels, and interacting with you fine folks in the chats, has been the unexpected highlight of my pandemic.

That's very cool, man. Participating in live chats has been the highlight for many of us!

Wredd, Wredd time
Page close to me
Don't let it be a clone
It's tearing apart my wife’s heart

Wredd Wredd Thies, you make the page so fine
You keep on rockin' all the Jedi
Wredd Wredd Thies, you make the Sith One grand
I feel a million dollars when you're a gift in my hand
Wredd Wredd Thies, you make me feel so sad
Any time I see you go, it Darth me turn bad
Wredd Wredd Thies, you make me feel so fine
Kavi packs some artwork just like my sweet wife

Marcus, I feel you workout here in the comments to stay sharp, because periodically you go underground to compete in epic freestyle rap battles, or folk song writing jam sessions. Or both.

Very powerful. Your wife should be afraid. Be very afraid.

I want to see Mole Man get a light saber and join the dark side.
