Dr. Mayavale by Tom Fowler and Simon Gough

Dr. Mayavale is a somewhat obscure, and very odd, enemy of the Legion of Super-Heroes. A creation of J.M. DeMatteis and Steve Ditko, Mayavale is a former Avatandan monk who obtained complete knowledge of all his past lives, and it drove him insane. He claimed that he had done nothing but good in too many of his past lives, and therefore had to do evil now in order to balance the karmic scales. He also claimed that Dream Girl, Chameleon Boy and Karate Kid had known him in their past lives, and that they had betrayed him, so he tried to kill them. The Legionnaires defeated Mayavale, but he vowed that he would return one day. This brings us to Tom Fowler's depiction of "The Return of Dr. Mayavale!" that I am now the proud owner of! Mayavale has kidnapped a group of Legionnaires from different incarnations this time, and there's no telling what kind of crazy plan he has in store for them! I love Tom's depiction of Mayavale here, with the long beard and fur coat. And I also think that he depicted Andromeda perfectly here, as the other Legionnaires appear to be in shock, but Laurel is just pissed and going right after Mayavale. Simon Gough added some wonderful colors to this piece, in particular I love the way he colored the Legionnaires, Mayvale's arms, and the reality storm tear that Mayavale has traveled through. Big thanks to both Tom and Simon for their amazing work on this piece!

This is a beautiful cover quality commission! The original before coloring is a great piece as well.

A fine way to get the main character and a bunch of Legionnaires onto the image! The Fowler composition does both to a high degree of excitement!
