DescriptionI love all things Spider-Girl, and any time I can acquire a cover, I am a happy man. This one has a great image of Spider-Girl on a Goblin glider hurling pumpkin bombs at Nova and a mysterious new superhero. Wait, what? In this issue, while having some fun with a glider borrowed from her friend Normie Osborn, Spider-Girl encounters a mysterious costumed & caped figure blasting through the wall of JJJ's office. JJJ is fuming, but the sight of May on a Goblin glider temporarily takes the wind out of his sails (see add'l image to see all of this). Spider-Girl pursues, but then Nova appears on the scene, and some great battle action ensues with the three characters. The mystery figure disappears during the mayhem with none of Spider-Girl's questions answered. But in later issues he is revealed to be James "Rhodey" Rhodes, who gained superhuman powers after exposing himself to experimental microscopic robots. He eventually became a personal bodyguard for Tony Stark, but never bothered with a monikor, so Spider-Girl just called him "Fred." Thanks for looking! Social/Sharing |

Glider and Nova and Hunk? Oh my!
Pat Olliffe has long been an underrated penciller. For me, he was like the second coming of Ron Frenz, with his old school traditional approach to drawing comics. The aerial perspective here is fabulous. You can almost feel the speed that Fred and Spider-Girl are moving towards each other at!

Cool cover! I'm a total sucker for covers with vertigo-inducing cityscapes and this one's killer! I love Olliffe's work and think he should get lots more credit than he does! Another great pick-up Paul!

Olliffe's work on Untold Tales of Spider-Man fit into the classical Spider-lore with stories that fit into the Ditko era, so it's cool to see that took that mentality to Spider-Girl! In real life, there wouldn't be any fantastical names and Fred would make just as much sense as having real life celebrities.

Love the perspective on this with Olliffe giving us a real sense of just how high up these characters are fighting. Olliffe's style was perfect for the stories DeFalco was telling in this title, and this cover is a big high point (no pun intended) from their run.

"Fred", lol! I guess it's not always in the name :) Great cover, man! First thing that popped into my head was that perspective and the depth exhibited as a result. With the figures, all adds up to a lot of movement and energy! Definitely a cover that makes you want to see what's going on inside the comic. Congrats, man!

Thanks for the description, it was a really confusing cover before I read it. Fred? Somehow a not very inspiring name. Congrats.

What if...? This would make a great cover for that series, too, imo. Nova? Rhodey? And spider girl on the goblin glider? That's a pretty cool concept for a cover. And I love the angle he chose. It reminds me of the great 70s marvel covers. Very cool addition. Congrats!
