Description

I got this a while back. It is an excellent cover by one of the consummate ASM artists. It is very simple, very clean and very impactful as a result.

Really surprising that Romita Sr. would adapt to the noodle webs!  Very fine detail to all of it, but retains the form and shape of a classic Romita Spidey!

To me, John Romita Sr. will always be the definitive Spider-Man artist. He made the strrip much better when Ditko left in 1966 and is the one that I grew up with, as a kid in the 1960's.

Ditko's Spider-Man was quirky but it also defined the very different kind of superhero that the webspinner was.  It is true, though, that it did not take me long to appreciate Romita Sr as well although I knew that Ditko had somehow left the title when I saw the cover of ASM #39.  And artists do adapt as well - this rendition, as Marcus has alluded to, is not quite the Romita Sr of old and is closer to the Todd McFarlane version.  Let us celebrate the unity in diversity.

The pose is very classic 60's and 70's era Romita, but all the rendering is purely 90's era, McFarlane influenced goodness. I can't remember if I sold it to you or if I auctioned it and you perhaps got it that way?

Dear Rubén, it was at auction.  What a small world!  I am still its custodian.

It was quite a joy to see it appear online, especially in your collection. Small world, indeed!
