DescriptionCard set published in 1993 by FPG.Bernie Wrightson: Master of the Macabre Card 77. After posting the Kirby page, I feel it necessary to follow up with another master of his craft. Most of Bernie's art was in the horror genre and I did not read or follow many books in that genre. So as a result I was a latecomer to appreciating his art. I recall passing on a Wrightson illustration way back when because even though I knew that he was an important artist, I was not that familiar with his body of work and I was not that into horror illustration. I was happy to pick up this piece because even though it is in his horror vein, I could imagine the woman escaping her horrific fate. Social/Sharing |

I've seen pencils from the edge of the card art
Long as I can remember, never horror knowing guy
I wish this could be the perfect macabre
But I come back to the water, no matter how much I buy
Every fish he sticks, every trail he tracks
Every path he makes, pencil road leads back
To the place I know, where the horror goes
Though I long to fin
See the line where the fish meets Bernie? it calls me
And no one knows horror it shows
If the art in my card of the sea stays to kill me
One day I'll know
If I go, there's just no telling the fear I'll know

Here I just thought she was a fish dentist. Love the Wrightson stuff. Looks great.

Or she could be an Ichthyologist doing a close up study.

Bernie's horror images were sometimes not without a hint of irony. But here I find it just in the title 😏 A great piece to have!

Listen, you picked up a Wrightson in a decently affordable manner and it's an example of Good Girl Art. What's not to love?
