Description

Fun fact, it was Greg Capullo announcing he was going to start selling his originals back in 2015/16 that really got me thinking about actually owning comic art. My first published purchase was a page from Capullo & Snyder’s Zero Year. While it wasn’t the goal then, it has become a goal of mine to collect pieces from as many of Greg’s projects as possible. So while I was reading the insanely balls to the wall Death Metal event I was also looking for the page that would best reflect my comic tastes as a whole as well as a nice storytelling piece. Well, there were many contenders but one that I really wanted/needed to own finally arrived in issue 5. This epic moment where Superman gathers a team to do the unthinkable, destroy/destabilize the Earth enough to cut off the Batman Who Laughs from being able to access the Crisis energy (hey, comic books right?). I am a huge sucker for Cyborg Superman so to be able to have a piece with him on it drawn by Capullo? Perfect fit! I also love the visual storytelling aspects too, super wide shot to show scope of the larger moment, but then pulls into a tight closeup of Superman as he reflects on what he is about to do to his adoptive home. The scale and scope of Death Metal was quite impressive, and strictly from an artistic perspective, contains some of the most amazing showcase of Capullo-y goodness. Just some simply stunning visuals!

Just by looking at the assembled cast, something cataclysmic on a wide scale is going to happen!  Capullo and Glapion's art for the GLs, Swamp Thing, Shazam, and the assembled Superman team all bring a sense of grim determination.

You definitely know that "it's about to go down." Excellent visual storytelling told with little action, only real sense of movement is Black Adam cracking his knuckles & three streaks in a wide shot. Simple & so very effective!
