Description

I'm ecstatic to finally have an Olivier Coipel original. I've admired his art for many a convention and this page is superb, much like the man himself. The composition stands out by making great use of large panels containing smaller inset panels to focus on character actions, like Thor's concerned face and Johnny Storm's perfect leap! The page finishes dramatically with an oversized Human Torch dynamic breaking the plane and tying the whole sequence together. Olivier's diverse skill set is evident: a confident combination of smooth lines, graphic shapes, dry texture, ink bleed, thin tones, white splatter and detailed hatching are lovely to behold. I scanned it in grey scale so hopefully you can see all the glorious depth for yourself.

For those curious, the published page was part of tribute issue where many artists drew page by page reinterpretations of the stories from Fantastic Four #1 and Fantastic Four Annual #3.

Now this is a beautiful page! Great characters. The city. The composition and the breaking of borders. But the absolute best part?The dynamic poses – SO good. Congrats Paul.
