DescriptionHere is a page from Sandokan by Hugo Pratt. Thought to be the prototype to Corto Maltese. This project was started for the Argentinian market before the first Corto book. After the first Corto book, Sandokan remained unfinished and Pratt left Argentina for Europe to continue creating Corto. It is clear that other than some facial hair differences, there is a Corto Maltese like character. Pratt finished the first half of the book plus a few pages from the second half and then abandoned the project. The art disappeared for decades and copies of the art reappeared in the early 2000's with publication in Europe. The original art has recently surfaced and pages were/are available through Krazy Art gallery in Milan, a new retail comic art gallery. I was lucky to be among the first to see the art and had a chance to choose from almost all the pages. I picked 2 very different pages.Social/Sharing |

An absolutely brilliant example. Gorgeous stylings and a stunningly beautiful attention to detail. The Cisco Kid appears to be missing his shirt, but I think I've found it!

A nice contrast to see an interior setting with a classic and exotic peacock chair that was popularized in the 60's and 70's to go with the luxurious style of fashion.

You picked very well, Jeff! When it comes to Pratt, seafaring images are a must have, but this interior scene is just as classic. Congrats and thanks for sharing this fabulous pair!
