DescriptionThis is the May. Day 20. Thirty-One days of Star Wars continues...Mandatory Retirement (part 2 of 4) - Their rest and relaxation over, Rogue Squadron and a Rebel task force descend on the world where Sate Pestage, one-time Emperor-proxy, has gone into exile. If the New Republic wants to claim Imperial Center for themselves and turn the tide of the war, it is imperative that they rescue Pestage, wanted by the Empire for high treason. On this opening splash page, Bothan representative and Provisional Alliance Councilor Borsk Fey'lya questions the logic of placing New Republic forces at risk for the sake of an Imperial defector, further alleging that efforts to rescue the Human Pestage could be perceived by non-Humans as an act of bias. Fey'lya was a prominent alliance politician, often at odds with Leia, Mon Mothma, and Ackbar, during this era of Dark Horse comics and the expanded universe novels. There were two art teams credited for this issue - Steve Crespo (pencils) with Chip Wallace (inks) and John Nadeau (pencils) with Jordi Ensign (inks). This page came directly from Steve (thanks Steve!). Social/Sharing |

This past year definitely saw more Dark Horse era pages find their way to me than I had expected. And much of the remainder of the month will be from this title, with a few other odds and ends mixed in.

Welcome Star Wars life
Crespo pencilled that
Even draws the teeth
We will find you
Acting on your Borsk Fey'lya
It's a trap is Akbar's nature
Every Bothan wants to rule the world

Whenever it comes on the radio or in an elevator, I will sing along no other way now.

Rogue Squadron, Sate Pestage, Emperor-proxy, New Republic, Imperial Center, Pestage, Bothan, Provisional Alliance Councilor, Borsk Fey'lya, Imperial, Human Pestage, Fey'lya, Mon Mothma. My head is spinning! Honestly now, do you really remember these names, ranks and terminology as soon as they're introduced to you in a comic for the first time, or do you have to go back when these words are repeated, to try to remember who they're referring to?

These books are twenty-plus years old, so rereading, oral history, and Arthurian legendesque Star Wars culture social memory. Certainly more than one pass.
