DescriptionNYCC 2013, my buddy JB and I wander to Gerald Parel's table and surprisingly found that he had availability to take our sketch requests. I went with my usual request of Planet Hulk (see my PH Commissions and Sketches gallery) and he requested a Maestro. Gerald finished them up in his room that evening and we picked them up the next day. Unsurprisingly, we both absolutely loved our sketches. I definitely liked his a little more than mine but both were stellar. Turns out, Gerald got sick the rest of the show so we certainly lucked out.Thanks JB for offering it to me a decade later! So little of it is linework and so much is the marker wash effect and the camera angle to bring out that huge presence and attitude!

So interesting that Parel's inkwash work reminds me of another "GP" in German Peralta. And he also did some Maestro work, too - I'd recommend checking out if you haven't! Killer wash work here, and that upward perspective choice is perfect. Congrats!

Fabulous job with the facial expression and the eyes. Parel makes it clear that this is a deranged character from the eyes alone.
