Description

Here is a smaller, yet still fully finished version of the larger well known ERB Doubleday plate. I don't know why Frank put so much attention and finish to this smaller beautiful piece- fellow Frazetta collector Pat Kochanek owns the large, published elegant version of this same image- But this smaller gem is pretty captivating on its own. Done in Frank's beautiful ink wash style. It's truly amazing that he created a complete finished scene here and even washed it in diluted ink to make it a delicate ink painting!

Spectacular! I don't think I've seen this version before, but I've long admired the final Doubleday drawing. Beautifully handled pose and shadows on this moody warrior drawing. So many Frazetta trademarks, like the reaching arm from the vanquished skeleton, phallic sword, and vascular arms on the hero. Cool to see the faint pencil ideas he tried before arriving at the final pose
