DescriptionGrail Alert!A sickly sun rises over the acrid chemical swamps of a war-ravaged planet. A squad of Daleks open fire, raining blaster bolts down on their adversaries, a withering stream of energy that devastates an advancing armoured column. As gouts of flame rise into the bruised sky, the Daleks' rasping voices ring out, chanting in triumph; 'Exterminate! Exterminate! Daleks conquer and destroy!!' The evocative endpapers of Doctor Who and The Daleks Omnibus. Published by Artus for St Michael (Marks and Spencer) in 1976, this compendium ('presented' by Terry Nation) included the novelisations of 'Genesis Of The Daleks' and 'Planet of The Daleks' by Terrance Dicks, as well articles and features from the astounding world of the outer-space robot people of the BBC's 'Dr.Who'. This book a pure adrenaline shot of seventies awesomeness, a World-Distributors-style melange of stories with vibrant, psychedelic art work. For years, fans of this fantastic publication did not know who painted the amazing images that accompanied Nation and Dick's text, orgies of Dalek violence lovingly rendered in vibrant acid colours, and evocative black & white inks. The illustrations were credited only to The General Illustration Company ltd. Set up in late 1960s, GIC consisted of Ivan Rose, Tony Phebey, Mike Francis and Rodger Towers. Thanks to Simon A. Brett's research for fanzine Vworp Vworp (issue 4), we know that these endpapers were drawn and coloured by Tony Phebey, whose familial connections to Terry Nation had landed GIC with the work for the Artus book. So chuffed to pick this one up AT LAST! It's in perfect, almost mint condition with the coloured ink - so often so faded - as clear and bright as the day it was painted. Thanks to Matt for the sale! Not sure how missed this beauty. Tom Baker will forever be my favorite of the doctors and of course, the Daleks are the thing of children's nightmares. Love it!

This is just... incredible. The negative space used for the Dalek energy weapons is done SO nicely! The violets compliment the destruction showcased by the heavy inks perfectly.
Reminds of "Absolom Daak: Dalek Killer" (if you remember that!)
