Description

A Bruce McCorkindale re-creation of Neal Adams's cover art for TARZAN OF THE APES. Mixed media on 13 X 20" Bristol board.

Bruce said, "The process here involved me desaturating the original image in Photoshop, then preparing a light blue version that I printed out onto the Bristol board via a large format printer. Then, I inked/painted it with India ink, watercolors, pencils, pastels, and whatnot.
It's the everything-including-kitchen sink method! Liquid watercolors for base, and then a slew of pens, pencils, pastels, etc. I've been enjoying the Derwent "Inktense" black watercolor pencil - I used it for a lot of drybrushy shadow fx, like on the ground in bottom left."

Very intensive work trying to get the brushwork technically sound while not losing any of the purpose and energy of Adams' original!
