DescriptionThis was given to me after his death by Darwyn's lovely wife, Marsha.Left for me. He wanted me to have it. He explained to me before he passed that he named the place where they- the heroes- all meet after me because I introduced him to so many people in the industry and felt it was a fitting tribute to me. As you can see he worked my characters in there- from Jonah- Harley, G.I.Zombie, and others.Details... Nice Green Arrow giving Green Lantern the finger. Batman and Jonah share a laugh with Harley tied up. G.I.Zombie in front f a deli looking at meat. and Kyypto having a slice of pizza as Zantanna glides into the front door. SILK SPECTRE- A character he and Amanda worked on relaxing with some soda pop and chatting with someone her own age. And so on. There is so much to love here and it's extremely sentimental to me. I miss my pal and this reminds me of him and the loss we all felt every day. 24-7 And folks, it is not for sale, so please do not even ask. Social/Sharing |

Just stunning. All of the sight gags. MM still feeling like an outsider on the top of the building just gets me every time. One of my absolute favorite pieces by him. Thank you so much for sharing.

What a remarkable work of art, so filled with detail but also clearly the pure joy of making it. Darwyn was truly in a "league" of his own. He continues to be missed but his star burned so brightly, and this piece and your story are proof of that. Deepest condolences.

Been looking forward to this upload since you started more frequently posting your collection on CAF this year. This is a wonderful drawing which any fan of DC (and DC) would appreciate. Every fan of comics was sad about Darwyn Cooke’s passing but you must feel his absence much more deeply as he was a close personal friend. Nobody who heard during your CAF talk with Bill your account of how you came to get this drawing would fail to be moved. Sorry for your loss.

Naw you could never sell this... anyone who asks is just being insulting. I didnt know the diner was named after you. I really appreciate you sharing this piece. It's always been one of my favorite drawings that he did.

You can't read the sentiment in your description and even think to ask about an offer. Amazing piece of art, Darwyn was wise to entrust it to you, where it belongs.

Really wonderful drawing Jimmy, and even better that Darwyn wanted you to have it.

The art is everything that was great about him as an artist and leaving it to you is everything that was great about him as a man.

Jimmy,
This is one of the most touching and meaningful pieces of art on CAF. The fact that Darwyn named this after you and then left it to you as a gesture of his love, is just beautiful. This stunning art is right where it belongs. And, yes, we all miss Darwyn every single day. He was a legend. Brings tears to my eyes.

Darwyn was a treasure, and his work is sorely missed. The small details are what makes the piece(is that a self portrait of him walking in the door?) The ceiling of the diner stands out to me, simplified but distinct. A once in a lifetime talent. Thanks for sharing.

This amazing cover isn't just a testament to Darwyn and his immense talent. It's also a testament to you as a person - the deep relationships and friendships you've made in the industry, and the careers you've helped and sheperded along the way. Much deserved!

Even without the personal connection, this is a great compilation of the characters Darwyn worked on that also captures the spirit that he brought to them. The fact that he named the place after you and left it for you is priceless. Thanks for sharing the art and the story.

I finally noticed the ephemeral image of Dr. Fate pouring a martini! Love that Slam Bradley is walking into the door greeted by Selina. Everything rocks in the piece. A testament to Darwyn's genius. He made comics fun!
