Description

Typically sumptuous image by the modern master Bob Peak.

In 1971, TWA (Trans World Airlines) commissioned a complete interior redesign of their fleet from Charles Butler Associates. Renowned designer and illustrator Bob Peak was commissioned to lead the visual and graphics aspect of the redesign. As part of this he produced four mural designs: USA, EUROPE, ASIA, and AFRICA. These all formed part of the Part of the "Great American Getaway" advertising campaign in the early 1970's.

The interior redesign focused on the new TWA Lockheed L-1011 TriStar first delivered in June, 1972. Four of the five movie screens in the TWA L-1011 were composed of a flip over design with the Bob Peak murals on one side. The art work was silk screened on a fiberglass oil cloth by a firm in Brooklyn. TWA contracted for 44 Tristar aircraft with Lockheed so probably about 50 of each mural were ordered with spares.
