Description

Batgirl enters a church to find the Joker with a chain saw and hostages, her psychopath brother pulling the pin on a hand grenade, and a few inconvenient henchmen to beat through before she can begin to deal with her problems. This was the most intense Batgirl story arc that I ever read, with Gail Simone exploring how Barbara's intentions to do good often leave her feeling and being isolated from everyone else including her family, friends, and allies in the Batcave. I am happy to have found a page from this major scene.

Pretty interesting how Sampere fills in some of the figurework and leaves other parts for the inker or colorist with the "x" all over.

Thanks Marcus. I have seen Sampere do different amounts of finishing around his time with Batgirl that I think is related to DC's experimentation with digital colouring. His pages during this time transitioned from some shadows and x-marks that allowed the inker to be more part of the process. There is then a quick change to figures with clear outlines but little backgound or shadowing that were scanned and sent for digital colours,(including digital inks) and texturing. The penciller/inker teams gave way to simpler pencils and computer magic ...for better or worse :)
