Description

Another one of Dave's masterful pen and ink recreations of his mid 90's Marvel Masterpieces cards. The inks are just incredible. 11" x 7.75" on bristol.

I've posted Dave's own words on the subtle (and not so subtle) changes he made from the original piece.

'Another one of my Marvel Masterpiece 95 pen and ink recreations--a commission for a friend. One of the things that strikes me is how much I've learned since 95. If you compare the pen and ink with both the pencil (done just prior to painting) and the painting (both done in 1994) you can see:
A. THE LINE WORK has become stronger and more varied. The pencil image has wrinkles that are all similarly thick and dark. the wrinkles are all "screaming at the same volume."
B. ANATOMY: I learned some more about the bone structure of the skull. Case in point look at the cheek bone and eye socket on the lighter side of the face. Now look at the painting and pencil drawing. Both lack any real bone structure in that area.
Just nice to know that I'm still learning.
also, the red skull is a better villain as a Nazi. even back then, Fleer, understandably, wanted no part of the symbol. This retcon changing his nazi arm band to a Hydra arm band just took all the punch out of his vile "cap needs to punch him in the face" character. So, if the symbol bothers you, print out the image and punch him like Cap.'
