Description

I remember seeing the cover for this issue at a local comic shop (an homage to the cover for Dan Clowes' Eightball #13) and was amused enough by the title and the issue # to pick it up. Even in middle age, scatalogical and weed references can still sway me!

Cash's humor isn't as savage as Clowes's was in Eightball, nor is her art as cutting in its depiction of friends, oddballs, and misfits. Regardless of the comparisons that Cash forces on the reader with her cover homage (and a story in this issue that is directly inspired by a Clowes story), Cash comes across as a unique talent in her own right, with a flair for understatement, self-deprecation, and wry humor. And, as you can see by the final panel on this page, she definitely doesn't take herself as seriously as other autobiographical cartoonists.

I'm looking forward to reading more by her, including a book-length graphic novel to be published in 2025 by Drawn and Quarterly. In the meantime, Cash's work can be found in her own anthology, Pee Pee Poo Poo, published by Silver Sprocket Press. Her original art is available through Athenaeum Comic Art.
