Description

Just send me all of the Willingham Elementals art (all of it in my price range at least). This quiet page comes from a fairly quiet issue that was literally the calm before the storm in the first arc of this series that took up semi-permanent residency in my head for a larger than chunk of the 80s than it should have.

Willingham obviously knew early on that he had an arc in mind for Tommy. These early issues showed him to be an early version of the prodigy characters that have become much more common in comics since. The meeting that followed was a long game that Bill paid off a few years later (with mixed results).

Bought this page during a ComicLink auction in late 2023.

Tommy was probably there for the young adults to identify with. Willingham's art in these issues rivaled superhero comics of the day with high quality art and high quality paper that stood out for an indie.
