DescriptionIan Bertram - Protector #3 Cover (later renamed First Knife)I have such a love for Ian Bertram’s art, but also for this lovely story written by Simon Roy with Artyom Trakhanov on interior art duties. I thought it was a lovely mini, but didn’t quite get as much attention as it should have. Because this series was released in January 2020, the pandemic really affected readership and its legacy, like most comics debuting at that time. The story was crisp and solid, but it was the world-building that was masterful. In many ways, it felt like a spiritual successor to Little Bird, my favorite mini-series ever. For all those reasons, this was an absolute grail of a find. 12x18 on art board; Image Comics Social/Sharing |

Big congrats, Kevin! Without knowing anything about the story, I could see why you'd pick this up. Great gritty detail in the unique Bertram story. The fact you love the book, too?! Awesome.

Thank you! I remember marveling at this cover when the book came out. Never did I think I would have the original in my hands!

OMG! What a terrific cover! Ian Bertram really showed the world what he could do in Little Bird. Protector was an offshoot of that story, but great in its own way. Ian didn't do the interiors but he did do the cover and it's a gorgeous piece of work, with all the detail and the intricate inking that Ian is famous for. Congratulations on a great pick-up!

Thank you so much! Yes - I love that I can pretend that it's from the same cloth as Little Bird, but luckily, I also love the Protector story as well.

I haven't read this book yet, but I love the cover! Ian Bertram's been a favorite of mine since I read Little Bird. I love his highly detailed and very organic style. This character looks like he could have stepped out of Little Bird. I love the character in his face and the pose he strikes with his two deadly-looking knives. Love all the other detail on his person as well. Fantastic pick-up, congrats!
