Couldn’t be happier to have this beautiful cover for Vanish #8 by Riley Rossmo. I’ve been a long time fan of Riley’s work. His productivity has been evident enough of his talents—as he’s been churning out covers and interiors on DC’s biggest properties for a decade now—but I’m glad to see that fans are finally recognizing his genius as of recent. I’ve always loved his identifiable and singular style, with cartoony figures providing a necessary foil to the horror elements he produces so well. His composition here is nuts. Between the detailed background and extremities in the foreground, it really looks as if he’s going to fall through the page. While his finished products have always been amazing, it’s also cool to have a more recent original from him now that he’s completing more of his finishes by hand—the tone throughout is especially fun. Last but not least, I was a huge fan of Vanish. Cates did a great job writing a book that had a 90s Image tone with a Harry Potter setting. Big fan of any story with an unreliable narrator as well.
