DescriptionNew Mutants Movie Commission by Dave Ryan.I got this amazing commission piece for Christmas 2023, from my long time friend Alex. This gift was a great way to end 2023. I met Alex years ago at comic con, we stayed in touch and even years later he became my roommate for a few years after that. We’ve always stayed connected and shared the love of comics and games. He knew I worked hard on this movie and this represents a big notch in my belt to have my own connection to X-Men history when I got to finally work on one and even got to be the Demon Bear on set (for VFX reference passes for fur and lighting, eyeline and positioning). Alex let me know that artist Dave Ryan added the Demon Bear to the cover illustration when he found out I worked on it. Dave Ryan’s artistic talents are Uncanny for getting such great matches to the characters played by these performers. I had a great time on set with all of them and this art captures their likeness beautifully. I don’t really know his art but from what I’ve now recently seen, these commission covers are really great snapshots. Cheers Alex and thank you for your generous thought and kindness. Terrific piece, and having that personal connection to it makes it even better. Congrats on this wonderful gift. Knowing of your involvement in it has inspired me watch the movie again tonight.

I added some silly pics we did toward end of film shoot of me doing a fur ref pass, in a wig and googlie eyes.

Fun and familiar likenesses in the forefront like movie poster, but the Sienkiewiczed Demon Bear is done in a separate tone for the background! Showing Ryan has a nice command of the pencil weight.

Cool that the likenesses are all there but mixed with a comic book-y look, too! Gotta love Illyana's expression :) And the straight Sin-kev-itch Demon Bear is a great touch, connecting to that original comic storyline. Very nice, James, congrats!

What? You got to wear the Demon Bear costume? On set? Awesome, dude! What a fun connection with the New Mutants! Speaking of which, this is a fantastic commission! Dave Ryan did an incredible drawing here, capturing the likenesses of the actors perfectly! And I love the Demon Bear looming in the background! It's a really nicely rendered commission! What a fantastic present from your friend, Alex! Congratulations!
