Description

A blast from last year's past, here's a 4-piece "puzzle card" commission from the talented Mexican artist Marco Carrillo, inspired by the box art for the 1993 Playmates Toys action figure "Mutatin' April", a piece of the second wave of the original "Mutations" line.

The Mutations line featured a progressive mutation sequence for each featured character. In this instance, the TMNT's roving reporter ally April O'Neil stumbles into some mutagen ooze while snooping around a sewer tunnel and transforms into a variation of her "Cat Woman from Channel Six" form. Marco added an extra twist at the end that shows her pouncing at Splinter, which was hinted at in the original action toy's manual.

Marco considering giving her darker brownish hair like on the box art, but he decided to go with fiery red hair, and I think it really pops!

Among the Additional Images, I've uploaded the conceptual layout sketches Marco sent along with the cards and a scan of the verso side of his custom-branded PSC sketch cards.

Very nice color scheme to remind us of the animation and the toy line for this sewer mutation sequence! Lots of sewer bricks to space out the cards for this long tunnel scene.

i loved the mutatin line. the figures and tight graphic design of the packaging was intense. i still have them all proudly displayed. strong stuff here!
