DescriptionOne of my "shadow goals" for 2024 was not to sleep on drops from Brit Comics Art. Of course there was another fantastic art drop right as I am trying to save money for #OAX2024!But, I had also been looking for a published page featuring Madcap for the longest time. So I put in the request for the page. Truth be told, I thought I had missed out, b/c a few days went day and I hadn't heard back. Then one day, my phone had a caller ID from the UK and I was like, "Who the @#$% is calling me from the UK?!?!?" Sure enough, Joe was kind enough to reach out, and between the two of us, we figured out there was some kind of Outlook issue where he had received my email, but I had not gotten his reply. I then arranged to pick up at #OAX2024, where I made no secret of the fact that the Hembeck sketch cards I sold, helped me to pay for this page - ahem - (by the loosest of definitions) BIRTH PAGE - of Madcap. Sure there are six pages in #307 that feature Madcap BEFORE this page, but who's keeping tracking of semantics like facts?!? FIRST APPEARANCE!!! BIRTH PAGE!!! HIS HEAD WAS AN EXTRA SWAPPABLE HEAD WITH A MARVEL LEGENDS DEADPOOL ACTION FIGURE!!! Dialing back the wacky for a moment, this page is penciled by the late, great Paul Neary. It features Nomad, Jack Monroe, nailing Madcap with one of his Stun Discs. This knocks Madcap into a wall with damage that would have killed any ordinary soul. However, Madcap's healing factor is of the Warner Brother's cartoon level variety. He 'Rice Krispies' his broken bones back into place and greets his opponent and introduces himself in a chipper fashion. Madcap is one of my favorite Z-List characters, one of those guys that you convince yourself as a kid is a bigger deal than they actually are. Hell, he's still a big deal to me! (and you won't convince me that Earth-X Daredevil wasn't always supposed to be Madcap!!!!) And given that I only like early era Madcap (before Ghost Rider comics made him a little too creepy and Deadpool comics used him as the fall-guy, a retcon for Daniel Way's lousy double-narration boxes tool from the 2008 run) there's not too much of that to go around! So super-happy to have this Madcap page (7th Birth Page, maybe this is a Birth Cry page?)!!!! Social/Sharing |

Congrats, Derek! I was reading Cap at this time and it was a really fun title. Madcap is ridiculous, but it was still fun to have him enter the series!
