DescriptionAnother absolute beauty by the Pander Bros run on Grendel in 1986-87, right when I started collecting comics. Comico had the color and the covers, and Grendel was and is one of my favorite comics of all time.I love this page for it's design and detail, not only capturing the zeitgeist of the 1980s, epitomized by Patrick Nagel (who had just died in 1984 and who's images WERE the 80s), but for how dynamic the artwork is, the characters unable to be contained by the panels themselves. Seeing Brian Li Sung's stubble, his facial expressions, especially in the last panel where Christine looks away and he peeks back like, "did that dramatic metro-sexual tantrum work?" and oh, it did and he's self satisfied. Plus it's got Christine Spar in her Grendel outfit, sans mask and fork, but still standing tall and oh so sexy. And Brian in his David Byrne-inspired huge suit, again which was 1984. It's SO a part of this time period when we all had Walkmans and boom boxes, played video games in an arcade, and had big hair like Chris. There's a nice sketch on the backside of Grendel's fork handle going through someone's mouth, hilarious! This page is absolutely HUGE! The art is standard 10"x15" but the pager is 14"x18.5" !! Miami Vice Crockett look for the guy and 80's Black Widow for Christine! I don't know how long you can look at these pages before you want to try to style your hair and grow stubble the same way.

Nice piece! I always liked how the Pander Bros. rendered Christine's lips. I have the next page (pg. 4).
