Q: | Which piece in your gallery is your favorite and why? |
A: | My Shadow #5 cover by Sienkiewicz is my favorite. I simply love it's dynamism, color, and energy. It's the centerpiece of my living room. It's enormous! I bought it around 2004 and it's been my favorite ever since. |
Q: | Please tell us a little about yourself. |
A: | I produce and write films, I consult nonprofits and corporations, and I write theater and film criticism in Chicago as well as write and perform sketch comedy and improv. I live with my wife and cats. |
Q: | How long have you been collecting comic art and what prompted you to start? |
A: | My first piece of comic art was a sketch by Jill Thompson of The Sandman in the early 1990s. I have been collecting comics since 1986, and seriously collecting comic art since 2004. I have always been a collector (rare books, miniature books, Kachina dolls, action figures) and the beauty and rarity of comic art was attractive. It immediately evokes feelings and memories of reading some of my favorite comics as well as a connection to the amazing artists who created this artwork. I believe comic art is the contemporary artwork of our time, supplanting other popular art to takes its place in museums and galleries. |
Q: | How do you display/store your collection at home? |
A: | I have many favorite pieces professionally framed with museum glass, and the rest in art portfolios. |
Q: | What are your top five most wanted original pages or commissions? |
A: | Honestly, this changes monthly based on taste and seeing other collector's artwork, but... 1. Grendel #7 Cover - Pander Brothers (had this comic on my wall all through the 80s) or any of Matt Wagner's Grendel or Mage (circa 1980s preferred or later) 2. A John Buscema page 3. A Wrightson Swamp Thing 4. John Byrne X-Men page (or any X-Men from the 80s) 5. Kevin O'Neill League of Extraordinary Gentleman page |
