Description

This logo represents the visual identity of 30+ years of the Mortal Kombat franchise and is one of the most recognizable pieces of video game artwork in existence.

In 1992, Paul E. Niemeyer was hired by Midway to render all the final artwork for the Mortal Kombat arcade cabinet, including the dragon iconography that was originally designed by John Tobias (with the dragon facing left before it was eventually trademarked to the right). This left-facing dragon logo was created specifically for the earliest material to ever be published for the game and was featured prominently all over the original arcade cabinet.

Some 32 years later, after my mom gave me the choice of either Mortal Kombat or Street Fighter II on the SNES (I chose MK), I was presented with the exciting opportunity to acquire the original illustration of the iconic logo, along with two first-generation printed proofs.

So awesome with the origins of this famous logo that's used everywhere MK goes as hand drawn pen and ink!
