DescriptionHere is a cool battle page between Doc Samson and the Hulk - this one from a recent HA auction. And what a powerful 3rd panel! It's a great companion piece to the other page from this issue that I just posted. While his art was a mixed bag at times, over his 7 year (!) consecutive run (from 1968 to 1975) on the title (ending with this issue in fact), he penciled (and sometimes inked) some very memorable issues - his Hulk was basically the most recognizable version (not saying the best! Loved John Buscema's Hulk) until Sal Buscema came along and put his artistic stamp on the Hulk, and lasted even longer than Trimpe! I know, I know, I collect Iron Man and some Avengers--what am I doing buying Hulk art? Well there are a handful of Trimpe Hulk issues I have a real nostalgic fondness for and this is one of those issues. And when I saw the page on HA I decided to go for it. Ironically, since I was buying sporadically (maybe just based on cover image or just when I could get my parents to take me to the local stationary store), I actually missed the next 6 issues until seeing and getting Hulk #200 and started collecting Sal's Hulk much more regularly. The end of one iconic run, before the start of another. The great Herb Trimpe's last Hulk issue, giving way to Sal Buscema's (apologies) INCREDIBLE run. Always liked the character of Doc Samson. Congratulations on two amazing battle pages. And even though you're known more for being an Iron Man fan, I don't think anyone can fault you for snatching up these two beauties.

Always love a Samson smackdown! Very cool to have a page from the end of Trimpe's awesome run (I just learned this, thanks Eric)!

Herb's art on the Hulk was great from the get go and he was still at the top of his game until he handed the reigns off to Sal Buscema. Great page!

Congrats on a couple great Hulk vs Samson pages! Reminds me of the Byrne issues, where I was first introduced to Samson. Congrats!

Oh man, this is why I love Herb Trimpe! An absolutely killer page from the Incredible Hulk. I love the opening panels with Samson apologising to Hulk and then getting hammered! Jaw-droppingly cool third panel! And then Trimpe finishes the page by cutting away to a totally different scene that gets interrupted by a flying Sampson! Killer pick-up, congrats!
