DescriptionPublished 1969Mission Into Eternity! written by George Kashdan Johnny Peril was a comic book private eye created by Howard Purcell who usually found himself caught up in all kinds of weird suspense tales. He first appeared in Comic Cavalcade #22 (1947). His last appearance in the Golden Age was in Sensation Mystery #116 (1953) He was revived for the Silver Age in The Unexpected 106 (1968). In this tale Johnny is enlisted by the Masters of the Cosmos to be their corporal agent on Earth to battle Zarko the Fearful. On this page Johnny body is fused with the spirit of Khirwa, an entity that is the antithesis of Zarko. And together they battle in space to overcome Zarko. I must admit that the page design and the space battle scene is what drew me to this page. Social/Sharing |

Never been a fan of Sparling's work, but as you say, the outer space setting is ALWAYS attractive no matter who draws it and the action within the beautiful panel design is also extremely eye catching!

Beautiful page! I love so much about this piece. First off, all things cosmic are amazing! It has a panel break with a bubble, an awesome layout, is very dynamic, amazing depth in that bottom panels, great inking in a revers ink style for the last panel, and I love the Mustache. I have a Jack Sparling piece and personally now after seeing this as well am becoming even more of a fan of his work. Congrats!
