DescriptionAfter the 1986 Question series ended with issue #36 in 1990. It was followed up with 5 issues of The Question Quarterly. In 1991 The Question co-starred with Green Arrow and the Butcher in a Brave & the Bold mini series. He made an appearance in a one-shot The Question Returns in 1996. He disappeared afterwards. In 1999 he appeared as a member of L.A.W. (Living Assault Weapons) with other Charlton Comics characters Blue Beetle, Judomaster, Captain Atom, The Peacemaker, Nightshade, and Sarge Steel. He disappeared again. Then in 2004/2005 the Question had a resurgence of sorts... In 2005 he received a six issue mini series drawn by Tommy Lee Edwards and written by Rick Veith but more importantly he made an appearance in the Justice League Unlimited animated series. I loved the appearance and it was cool to see him in a cartoon, a Justice League cartoon to boot!! Rick Hoberg, a solid artist with a classic illustrative style, known for Star Wars, All-Star Squadron and a host of other books gives us a beautifully rendered Question. The high contrast really makes this piece pop. I've always thought, given his style, Rick Hoberg was a Strip artist living in a comic book world. The Question by Rick Hoberg on 11x17 board. 2022 Social/Sharing |

Yeah, Hoberg was always a very solid storyteller and I enjoyed his brief work on the Batman comics of the early to mid 80's, especially with Alcala on inks. This piece demonstrates that he can still produce quality work even many decades later!

It really looks like The Question is placed in the world of the Spirit! Very nice how the fog and mists use the thin lines in contrast with the heavy inked shadows.
