DescriptionAt this year's Windy City Pulp and Paper Convention I picked up this wonderful Ed Emshwiller cover painting for Science Fiction Stories #2! Windy City is the best convention on planet Earth and I have to thank Markus for making this deal possible! This great Emsh painting is obviously his take on classic photos and paintings of American servicemen heading off to WW2 and saying goodbye to their sweethearts for possibly the last time. But here Emsh gives it the science fiction treatment as only he can manage! This issue was published by Columbia Publications in 1954.Social/Sharing |

As long as its only the fires of passion that burn them...They are pretty close to a rocket and we all know how unstable they can be.

Irresistible evoking the romance of scenes less than a decade before of noble sacrifice for the greater good of mankind.

I think it's more like Profit and Rockets.
This is an awesome painting, though. Congratulations.

Undoubtedly one of Emsh's very finest paintings. It captures the spirit of 1950's SF perfectly!
