And now for something completely different . . .

While I had collected the early Iron Man original art (sketchagraph) cards from 1998 to 2001, from 2008 through about 2015 (with decreasing interest beginning about 2012), I really ramped up and was a huge collector of sketch cards from Rittenhouse and Upper Deck.

Here are some of the Bob Layton original art sketch cards (called sketchafex cards) I acquired from the 2008 Iron Man card set from Rittenhouse Archives (released in connection with the 2008 Iron Man Movie). These cards were not inserted in packs and only came as dealer incentives when buying 4 cases.

Rittenhouse would also let the artist keep a few blank cards so the artist could sell them separately. They are considered official and Rittenhouse would approve them for content (the same as it does all the other sketch cards in the set). These types of cards would later be called "artist proofs." So I commissioned Bob to do several for me, including the one card in the center of the pic. Because Bob was the only real comic artist who worked on the set, I ended up acquiring a bunch of these cards.
