DescriptionThe Swamp Thing #8 Pg. 1Art by Mike Perkins Written by Ram V After posting/sharing the cover awhile back, the story of The Swamp Thing #8 begins! The setting is the Kaziranga Forest in India. Suicide Squad members Peacemaker and Nightmare Nurse meet up, shortly after Asa (Nightmare Nurse), left Chemo to battle with Swamp Thing at the end of the previous issue. Peacemaker isn't happy that Asa let Swamp Thing go. But she believes Swamp Thing isn't an entity anyone can own, possess, or control - and she makes her belief clear to Peacemaker leading into the next page. The cover to this issue is still one of my overall favorite pieces but the interior also has some amazing storytelling, dialogue, thematic elements, and writing by Ram V, and plenty of of more brilliant Mike Perkins artwork. One of my favorite issues (if not THE favorite) of one of my favorite modern runs in comics. It has multiple character first appearances and villain origins, multiple character deaths, cameos from Superman/Darkseid/Amanda Waller, location cameos of Metropolis/JFK Airport/Task Force X Island, and some of the best battle/action pages in the entire run! It's a quieter start to the story on this page, but things really ramp up quickly from here! I'll try not to take 18 months to post the next one, lol. Social/Sharing |

This page has a great feel from the first panel showing an amazing picturesque setting to the thrid panel panel showing a dramatic surprised/ fearful look in her eyes to the last panel of Peacemaker's stern look. Mike Perkins always does a great job telling a story with his visuals! Very cool!

I walk the swampy green, I watched the Chemo pass Levi
I’m used to style that slays evil, guess I was just a Kavi guy
Then you happened girl, this feeling that possesses me
I Nightmare Nurse myself, I guess we all just can’t Make Peace
I can't see no Swampy
Oh, I can see Ram V
My eyes can only look at you, ooh
I used to have a brain, I used to think of Swampy things
The wash on Perkins inks that glistened makes the artwork sing
Don't ask me why, little nurse
I love you and that's all on display
You're every, every death that I make
You are my Nights, my Nurse on page
I can't see the Swampy
No, I can't Cena Kavi
Mike's lines can only look that cool, ooh

Perkins handles the elements so well and grounds it all with an amazing Peacemaker headshot.
And those Nightmarish eyes!

Oh, baby, you're finally sharing this! I cannot believe how long you've held out for! But great things come to those who wait and just as exciting as it was to see Mikail slowly post his beautiful story, so too is it going to be fun to watch you unravel this one!
I wasn't even aware of Nightmare Nurse's existence until I read these issues, but I thought she was a cool character. I love the manner in which she basically embarrasses Peacemaker and puts him in his place. Her eyes in panel 3, they look like death is coming. So creepy cool!

That background...those eyes...last panel magic. So much on each panel. Congrats!

Very nice but what I gather from this; is that since your injury you have developed a interest in naughty nurses.

Mike and Ram expertly weave this tale, and Mike is instrumental in making these quiet moments sing with tons of atmosphere and detail.
Beautiful, subtle layout on this page.

But you gotta start quiet, right? And then blow things up from there! A gorgeous scene-setting page from the fantastic Mr. Perkins. From the beautiful foggy hills in the background of panel 1 to the inky blackness (and razor cuts) of panel 4, "atmospherics" is the name of the game. You need someone to lock in the mood and sense of space and solitude before releasing Chemo and the flamethrower dude into the forest... and then sit and wait (although not for long) for the forest to push back. Mike was more than up for the task, and you chose a fabulous issue to pick up in full! Congrats, Kavi!

Beautiful beautiful page ... And I agree with Asa. Swamp Thing isn't an entity anyone can own, possess, or control --- but I'm sure glad he's agreeable to being drawn by the talented Mike Perkins.
