DescriptionI was first exposed to Rey’s amazing talents when Ray Cuthbert posted a couple of terrific b&w drawings in his gallery during the Spring of 2023. Naturally, I inquired about the art and the artist, and Ray very kindly pointed me in the right direction. Eventually I made contact with Rey’s stateside rep Rhandy who apprised me of the situation with his artwork and sales. Apparently Rey is based in the Philippines but works predominantly in the European market. Because of this “international supply chain” sale pieces and commissions can be a bit slow in coming. By the time I connected with Rhandy, the pickings were pretty slim. But I did notice that Rhandy had a rather nice personal collection of Rey’s pieces. I would guess because of their personal and professional relationship, these pieces were either gifts, or payments for Rhandy’s services, or just him having the pick of the litter every time Rey had a new batch of art to sell. Whichever the case, he had some great examples. Not always being as stupid as I look, I took the opportunity to inquire about the possibility of getting something from his personal collection. He very kindly told me they were not for sale, but he would let me know if that ever changed. Well, as you can see, it did.
Anyway, very happy and very proud to add this to my Philippine artist gallery. Thanks to Rhandy for remembering me when the time came. And to Rey for the inspired work. And another tip of the cap to Ray Cuthbert for opening my eyes and showing me the way. Appreciate everyone who stopped by. Social/Sharing |

This guy has obviously paid his dues. You should just commission something from Rey.

Hey, you're partly to blame, with that whole John Pomeroy thing. By the way, have I got something to show you. Heh-heh!

A true Beauty! Love the painting. Face wise, reminds me a bit of Tony Daniel art. Congrats!

So funny - 'striking' was the first word that came to mind when I saw this image...and I then saw the same word used in your description! Great minds think alike! In all seriousness, the use of light on this page it what gives it such strong energy - a very pretty piece!

Really like the white outline and highlights, justified by that big moon in the background

BEAUTIFUL piece, Eric. Wow - fantastic mood and atmosphere (I love the feeling of a foggy, slightly sleepy Gotham - a really nice change of pace!), and Selina's Hepburn-ness is captured perfectly. Gorgeous. The lighting of the moon on her costume is top notch, and I'm utterly captivated by her shadow on (and the textures of) the concrete ledge she's perched upon. Super cool pick up, Eric! Fantastic add to your gallery of Filipino artists!

Oh man! How did I miss that????? You totally nailed it on the Audrey Hepburn thing. Leave it to you of course. When it comes to legendary silver screen goddesses, Marilyn is my #1. But Audrey is a razor thin second. I could stare at that face and those classic features for hours. Thanks for the nice comment and for catching my unforgivable oversight.

Love the gradients of color here, namely the greys! Gorgeous face, and love that moon rendering! Corner to corner goodness. Congrats!

Wonderful Catwoman drawing by Rey Macutay! Love the atmosphere of the piece--the noir-like setting, the full moon behind Catwoman, the rim light on her torso, the silhouetted water tower behind her. Love the black costume, the goggles she's lifting from her eyes. Selina looks absolutely stunning here, I'm reminded a little of Adam Hughes's fine run on Catwoman. Marvel should hire Rey to work on Catwoman. I bet he'd give Hughes a run for his money. Great pick-up, congrats!
