Description

I've always wanted a Kaluta "Shadow" page and though this one is more recent than his early run on the series, he's the consummate Shadow artist and the lines on this page are just amazing. Pure Kaluta.

Lamont Cranston slips into the shadows of the Cobalt Club, where a meeting with the police commissioner brings him face-to-face with his mysterious ally, Margo Lane.

Rendered in ink over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 10.5" x 15". Pinholes in the lower margin, whiteout touch ups, and light handling wear. Hand-lettered text paste-up in the last panel.

Written and illustrated by Kaluta, co-written by Joel Goss.

Yeah know it's fantastic when it doesn't matter that there's no proper Shadow on the page. Kaluta was firing on all cylinders here. Great get.

Pretty page! Kaluta has an instantly recognizable line, and I love his facial types. Wonderful backgrounds, vehicles, clothes, and expressions

He revisits the Shadow in the 90's to great fanfare with a renewed illustrative style. He makes the two issues into a prestige work!

I can still hear those words coming from Lamont to his dad:

Fred: I still want to sow some wild oats.
Lamont: At your age, you don't have no wild oats, you got shredded wheat.
