DescriptionSILENT NIGHT, UNHOLY NIGHT. Here's a chilling cover for Tomb of Dracula #54, penciled by the incredible Gene Colan and inked by the masterful Tom Palmer. In this issue, a son is born to Dracula and his wife Domini in a stable on Christmas Eve. (Eerie, right?) Laying on a bed of hay, Domini cradles the child in her arms in a Madonna-like pose. The family is encircled by vampire hunters, including Rachel van Helsing and Blade, who've come determined to kill them. Rachel is armed with a crossbow, Blade with a wooden knife, and the others carry wooden stakes and daggers. Count Dracula himself is all that stands between the vampire hunters and his wife and child. He boldly spreads out his massive black cloak as if to shield them from the weapons of the hunters and coldly warns them, "Away from here, Mortals, or you are DOOMED! Tonight belongs to the SON OF DRACULA!" This is the kind of scene that Gene Colan is famous for--In fact, he built his reputation as one of Marvel's greatest artists thanks in part to his work on Tomb of Dracula. Colan's dynamic pencils are beautifully enhanced by the lush inks of Tom Palmer, who here demonstrates his consummate skill at balancing light and shadow. IMHO, this is a true Colan/Palmer masterpiece and I'm delighted to add it to my collection.Social/Sharing |

The perfect Colan billowing cape! Makes me wonder if he was a big influence on Kelly Jones. Very cool pick up!

I feel like Gene Colan is vastly underrated. His pencilling at times may have been a challenge for inkers, but once he paired with ones that knew how to handle him, the art just transcends! This is one such example

This is a fantastic Colan cover! Top tier composition and the ink work from Palmer is just magnificent. The shadows of Dracula's cloak work extremely well here.
I especially like all of the wood we see on this cover! Dracula has been caught with his fangs out in the barn. We not only get the quintessential wooden stakes and crossbow, but this is all going down on 2x6 rough hardwood plank flooring! Huge congrats on this beauty, Bill!

Colan and Palmer truly outdid themselves on this cover. It’s a masterclass in visual storytelling. The composition is lovely and rich with tension. I love how Colan drew Dracula’s outstretched cloak, forming a stark, almost angelic silhouette as he shields his dark “holy family” from the hunters. Colan’s pencils capture the desperation and defiance in Dracula’s posture, while Palmer’s inking bathes the scene in haunting chiaroscuro which heightens the sense of drama. This is a fabulous cover because on top of being well drawn, it tells a whole story in a single, unforgettable scene. Congrats, Bill!

The whole cast is there for this special occassion of a birth cover of their golden angel. Colan and Palmer promises The Big One and Domini delivers! This long running series needed new blood and just like long running TV shows, introducing a baby is the way to go!

Geez! Dracula doesn't even get one moment to be a proud papa before everyone is surrounding him with their weapons drawn! What a powerful and beautifully drawn cover scene!! I absolutely love Tom Palmer's inks on this one. Of course when you have the masterful pencils of Gene Colan to work with, it sure helps a lot! I can see why you would be totally delighted to add this one to your amazing collection. Congrats!!

Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! You actually believe that toy hurt Dracula? Prince of Evil, Lord of Darkness Dracula? Then you are a bigger fool than I thought. Your weapon is meaningless against me, human. Meaningless!

Colan and Palmer captured and rendered better than anyone else the essence of thta Night Creature! An extraordinary cover by one of the best duos of the Bronze Age. It would be impossible to understand TOMB run without Gene Colan. Huge congrats! (It is just unbeliveable your capacity of upgrading your collection!)

It's easy to see why Colan's work on Tomb of Dracula is still the stuff of legends to this day. A fabulous example of his amazing work on that title.

Magnificent cover! Colan was my favorite Bronze Age artist in the Marvel Bullpen. For me, his stint on this horror series informed and elevated all the shadowy work he later did with Batman, Howard the Duck, and especially DD
