DescriptionThere was a time when Valiant was really popular. And they did put out some really nice comics with fantastic artwork. This piece is one of them and is by someone whose work is really quite difficult to obtain nowadays - Michael Bair. A fantastic image of Solar, Man of the Atom, executed with great skill as well as perspective. It is difficult to believe that this piece of artwork is now three decades old.It is a fantastic splash page with great visual effect and is even more impressive when viewed in person. Wow this is spectacular CAB! I dont know much about Valiant comics but this piece on it's own makes me want to look into it more. Really stunning technique love the leading lines which gives it a graphic aeshetic as well. Congrats on such a fantastic pick up.

Very cool & dynamic piece! With the multi-rays and circles within circles, it has a solar and an atom-like feel to it.

A visual experience of cosmic proportions! That straightedge worked overtime for the precision and painstaking effort this took from Bair. This couldn't have been achieved in computers back then.

The painstaking work involved in drawing and then inking a background like this is almost incalculable. An incredibly impressive and beautiful piece, with Bair at the peak of his abilities. Congratulations, CAB, I know Southern Comic Geek and Hoarder's Hide will both be envious of this one, as they should be!

Many thanks, Rubén. Michael Bair is a really very talented artist indeed. I do have one or two more similar splashes, so perhaps I shouldn't put them up just yet!

This cover required a lot of patience to pull off! But it was worth it. Such great impact. Congrats.

Many thanks, Eric. This DID require a lot of patience. And it is in fact a splash page although it is cover quality too, in my view.

wow, the level of detail by Bair is top notch and this is easily mistaken as a cover versus a splash because of how epic it is. Valiant is one of my main holes when it comes to comics knowledge but having seen so much great artwork from those titles from other collectors definately makes me curious to learn more about it

Many thanks, Kavi. Yes, given the meticulous attention to detail and its overall execution, it is certainly cover quality. Valiant comics were all the rage at the time but unfortunately fizzled out when the comics scene generally also declined.
