Description

A recent commission with a long wait! The client, known for his Marvel Two-in-One-themed commissions (reinterpretations of published art, art for faux/fantasy stories) commissioned Ian Richardson in 2019 to do two faux Thing & Micronauts covers. Once completed I saw them posted on Facebook and, being a huge Micronauts fan from back in the day, I gushed & fanboyed. Since I was probably looking pathetic, I was assured that they'd be heading my way. But, after Ian shipped them from the UK to the USA it appears that he was given the incorrect address and the 2 covers went into indefinite postal limbo, possibly never to see the light of day. This was tragic as I've been actively doing commissions since the late 1990s with hundreds posted at both my website and CAF gallery and had never had an opp to ink any Micronauts in all that time and now wondered if I ever would. Time jump until earlier this year when the package reappeared and was sent to me! I was ecstatic but I also had other irons in the fire to work on first, shows to attend and Inkwell obligations, delaying me from jumping on them with only the occasional piecework. Finally, yesterday I finished the first of them! I need to hear from the client what his story idea was but we have Benjy fighting it out with Prince Argon/Force Commander with Bug, Princess Mari/Marionette and Commander Arcturus Rann/Space Glider looking in rough shape inside what looks like the chambers that Galactic Defender, lurking in the background, protected his preserved race for eons from Micronauts Annual 1 (1979). I hope to have the other cover done by next week if the holidays don't distrupt those plans. My 27th MTiO Guy commission, at least my 29th Thing commission and my 8th time inking Richardson. Ironically, I recently inked a Sal Velluto sketch cover with Baron Karza which technically became my first Micronauts-related piece. Completed 12/19/2024.
