DescriptionA great Ian Churchill page from the Heroes Reborn story arc where Hulk enters the scene in his typical smashing style. What does the Golden Hawkeye think that his little pig sticker arrow is going to do to the Jade Giant?!You may love or hate the Heroes Reborn arc, but the art was always over-the-top fun and this issue was jam packed with great pages! Truly thankful for the well-placed fist and shadows in this splash page. Just look at that glorious 90s cross hatching! Social/Sharing |

Ian Churchill did some of his very best work on this 1997 Avengers run, and wow, what a fantastic page this is! That is an epic image of Hulk bursting onto the scene. I love how his huge foot breaks panel. And a terrific shot of Hawkeye in that last panel as well. Fabulous pick-up!

Thanks Paul! I agree - probably my favorite era for Ian's art.

Really enjoyed Ian's 90's work. I remember asking him about buying some art at a show back in the day and he gave me Jeph Loeb's number and told me to call him. I don't think Jeph was repping him or anything, but probably had more to do with Ian being in the UK and Jeph being here. I don't think I actually ever called Jeph, but it's one of those odd collecting memories I have.

Awesome! Maximum! Extreme! Everything you can think of with the Liefeld studio taking over this title! Try snubbing Churchill's massive Hulk from the after party and you'll feel the wrath unlike anything before.

Thanks TC! Spot on, the Kirby-esque leading foot looks like it would do some serious damage!

I wasn't too crazy about the Heroes Reborn but liked most of the art. This page is crazy good. Congrats!

Whoaaa! the Hulk seems to be bursting out of the panel--make that out of the page--on this page from the 1997 Avengers #4 comic! Artist Ian Churchill used forced perspective to make Hulk's hand seem to reach out for the reader! In fact, he exaggerated Hulk's entire body, giving him a bigger build than Arnold Schwarzenegger in his prime. Fun to contrast the enormous Hulk with the tiny Hawkeye, who doesn't seem to be intimidated by the Green Goliath at all. Fun layout with fantastic inks and lots of cool crosshatching make this page a keeper! Great pick-up, congrats!

Yes, HR had some pros and cons but I agree the artists just being able to go all out was a pro! Witness exhibit A :) Congrats, man!
