Jesse Lonergan, The Second Rider p.5 from Heavy Metal 294 (2019). I picked this up at OAX2025. I love the classic late '70s Heavy Metal magazine vibe and Lonergan's simple but expressive style on this. Here's how he describes this story on his website:

"The original intention of The Second Rider was for it to serve as a showcase for my art that I could use as a sample or for submissions. While working on it, I was contacted by an editor at Heavy Metal who wanted to know if I had any short self-contained comics I could show them. I sent The Second Rider along, and they suggested a few edits which would make it fit in more with Heavy Metal�s brand, which resulted in a version having more text and a more definitive ending appearing in Heavy Metal #294. This is the version I originally had in mind and ultimately prefer more."

So it wasn't originally created with Heavy Metal in mind, but reading the whole 8-page story (https://www.jesselonergan.com/comics/second-rider) makes me suspect it was on some level inspired by the work Moebius was doing decades before. And check out the color image - Jesse's coloring is fabulous, too.
