Description

Here is a subtle yet bold (IMO) pastel painting of roses and a copper watering can by Daniel Keys, who is my favorite living still life artist. I just love the patina he achieved on that watering can, and his roses are always amazing. Daniel paints tableaux from life with no preparation, going directly to the canvas with paint, or pastels in this case, and completing a finished painting in one sitting, typically. Really nice guy, too. He first studied from books by Richard Schmid and later became a compatriot and painting companion with him towards the end of his life.

Wow, the way he captures the glow of the copper watering can with such rich, luminous patina is really outstanding!

Very nice reflection of the rose in the oxidized copper surface. Keys unlocks more things that affect the senses with the soft pastels.
