DescriptionOn a recent trip to Buenos Aires I found some cool Alberto Breccia art to bring home with me. It took a bit of detective work to find a stash of pages but thankfully my wife is patient (or has just given up trying to change me) and a few little treasures were unearthed. I actually bought these on Valentine's day between an afternoon foodie tour of San Telmo and a Romeo y Juliet ballet. I am such a romantic!Although Breccia lived most of his life in BA, he spent his first years just across the Rio de la Plata river in Montevideo, Uruguay. The story of Breccia is incredible and is very much the story of Argentina and is worth looking into. Not to selfishly self-promote but I did write an article on the life and art of Breccia some years ago for the CFA-APA and have put a copy of it online if you care to see, you can download the pdf here. It is an old article from when I was first learning about Breccia and had only a piece or two. There is so much great art and so many great artists that came out of Argentina that it is worth looking into more if you have any interest. This art is from an unpublished book project. There were at least 3 covers made and they all went unused but were ready for use as you can see in additional images with all the production art and overlays ready to go. Social/Sharing |

A treasure hunt as fantastical as the tall tales told of Baron Munchausen with a rewarding treasure trove of Breccia imagination!

These are reallly interesting, and all new to me. This is so good and has so much style, but I doubt I would have guessed the artist

This cover is a stunning example of Breccia's mastery, even for an unpublished project. The fact that multiple covers were fully prepared but never used only adds to the mystique. Seeing the production art and overlays alongside it really highlights the level of craftsmanship and detail that went into the work. It has a feel of Breccia wanting to experiment with abstraction. A fascinating piece of "what could have been" history from one of Argentina’s greatest artists!

Beautiful pick up. LIke the shapes and colors. Nice to see some color work by Breccia for a change. Reminds me a bit of Ferenc Pinter
