Description

The Genis-Vell Captain Marvel was one of my favorite comics to read on the regular in late 1999-2000. It was always part of my Wednesday Warrior comic shop pickups at Comics Ink at Culver City back in the day. He was my favorite character from Avengers Forever and Wizard sold me on the book with their #0 insert promo book. Haven't revisited the run since that time, but I was certainly pulling for the title to continue when Marvel did the whole U-Decide contest back in 2002, pitting it against Marville and Ultimate Adventures.

For me, this book is basically the Marvel equivalent of DC's Hourman comic of the same era. Rick Jones and Marlo Chandler say their farewells to Bruce Banner, while Genis-Vell isn't really in on the in-joke of the Gamma Bomb explosion. Not too far off from Snapper Carr, Bethany Lee and Hourman.

From the Bwa-ha-ha, to the Lonely Man Theme reference, it's a fun page.

It even has that same art style as Hourman! Clean and sharp artwork to make them look young and not just grim and gritty.

One of those rare times where I personally wish a contemporary piece of art had the dialogue drawn on the page!

I wish that all the time - many pages lose their impact without the dialogue!
